About us

About Us

Scouts are do-ers and give-it-a-go-ers. Yes, we go camping, hiking, swimming, abseiling, cycling and canoeing. But we also get to hang out with our friends every week – having fun, playing games, working in a team and taking on new challenges.

Everyone’s welcome here. All genders, races and backgrounds. Regardless of your child’s physical ability – there’s a Scout adventure out there waiting for them. And we’ll help them find it.

Within Kingswood Scouts we offer the over 1200 young people in our District the opportunities to gain #skillsforlife on a weekly basis, supported by over 500 fantastic adult volunteers.

Kingswood District is one of the largest districts in the Scout County of Avon extending from Bitton to Hanham; across Soundwell, Staple Hill, Downend, Mangotsfield; and up to Emersons Green and Lyde Green.

Originally being located in the Scouting District of ‘East Bristol’ in 1928, the Kingswood area was linked with the neighbouring St George in 1960 to create a new District. It was not until 1974 that the Kingswood District we know today was formed, and it began with 17 Groups and two Venture (similar to the current Explorer) units.

As of the 2020 census, we now have 16 Groups and five Explorer units within our District.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
